2 Full-time 3 hours ago Full Job Description General Statement of Duties Manages and supervises the wastewater treatment plant and related treatment facilities including process control, permit compliance, and laboratory oversight.
Reports to the Wastewater Division Manager.
Qualifications Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field plus five (5) years of wastewater or environmental science experience.
Valid State of Connecticut Class III Wastewater Operators Certificate.
Must obtain a Connecticut Class IV Wastewater Operators Certification within 2 years of employment.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of the design, operation, maintenance and process control of wastewater facilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations that pertain to wastewater treatment and construction such as hazardous material handling, confined space entry and rescue.
Demonstrated knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and practices.
Proven communication skills, including the ability to make effective presentations.
Proficiency in the use of a personal computer, SCADA, and other related wastewater and laboratory software.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and direct wastewater treatment work.
Proven understanding of the Water Pollution Control Federation Manuals of Practice.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, peers, officials of other agencies, and the public.
Examination:

Responsibilities:
Prepares operating reports and charts utilizing plant records and technical data.
Analyzes plant performance and recommends correction of abnormalities in the treatment or disposal processes, ensuring effluent meets local, state and federal requirements.
Oversees the health and safety program for the plant.
Oversees plant maintenance.
Evaluates data in order to determine needed repair, rehabilitation, and long-term capital replacement of equipment and the physical facility of the Grass Island Treatment Plant.
Manages plant personnel.
Keeps abreast of procedures, methods, materials and findings in the field of wastewater treatment.
Prepares reports and performs laboratory tests as required.
Supports Town Policies and Philosophies.
Performs other related work as required.
Supplemental Information All positions may be subject to an interview process.
The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test, given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
